Flashing the wrong firmware for a device's board hardware version can permanently brick it. The device tries to reject a wrong or corrupted firmware itself, but that protection is not a guarantee — you are still responsible for choosing the right file.
Downgrading firmware is discouraged: a newer firmware version can rely on features or behavior an older one does not have.
Always double-check the board hardware version matches before publishing or flashing — newer boards may need firmware that simply does not exist for older ones, and vice versa.
